St Andrews - Again!
WEST SANDS BEACH
We spent another few days visiting St Andrews during the Easter holidays and you just cannot spend time here without visiting West Sands Beach for a nice long walk along the sand. If you catch it at the right time, the tide goes out so, so far! We always seem to get lucky with the weather when visiting the east coast - it’s usually windy, but thankfully it has been dry most of the time when we visit. It is so different to the west coast!
PASTEL SKETCH
This is a short timelapse video of a quick sketch I did when at the beach. I’ll often take the sketchbook out whenever I can - you just never know what you’ll stumble upon, and using the pastels really manages to capture the colours that have caught my eye at that particular time, especially with the tendency for the Scottish light to change from minute to minute. I do also use quick photographs from my smartphone for convenience, but I feel that they do not truly capture the feeling at the exact time. Perhaps a professional photographer would be able to do this, but for me, you can’t beat a sketchbook!
I decided to paint a very small 5” x 5” painting from this sketch. It‘s nice to work on a tiny little painting before transferring my ideas on to a larger scale canvas. Here’s the finished small painting - hope you like it!

New Small Original Paintings
RELEASED ON FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM
Sometimes after I’ve enjoyed painting something new, such as a really small painting like the St Andrews one above, I want to paint more of them!
I painted a series of small paintings, mostly influenced by my recent trips away to St Andrews and the East Neuk of Fife in Scotland with the quaint, old fishing villages of Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem and Elie.
These proved to be extremely popular and sold out within one weekend! I will be producing more soon, so please follow me on my social media platforms to get the first chance to buy them!
Here’s a little video of Alan in the workshop making the frames. I asked him to make a few, and he made lots of them! I’ll be busy painting more of these this month!
Commissioned paintings
This month I had the pleasure of handing over these personalised commissioned paintings.
A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GIFT
The first piece was for a special big birthday as a gift from some of the family. A painting of Loch Nell, a place that has many happy memories for the birthday girl and her husband. The painting has a little bit of text in it and makes it a little bit more special.

FIRST PIECE OF ORIGINAL ART
The other little painting was for a newly born baby girl. Titled “Then There Were Three” - 3 litte birds symbolise the new little family of 3. Again, there is a little bit of text with the baby’s name and her date of birth. Her first piece of original art.
